How We Compare Casinos

Our editorial methodology — what we assess, how we score, and what our scores do and do not represent.

Starting point

Before we compare any operator, we establish two things: that it holds a current licence from the UK Gambling Commission, and that it is actively accepting UK players at the time of review. Any operator that does not meet these conditions is not included in our comparison set.

Our comparison scores run from 0 to 10. In practice, the operators we compare tend to score between 7 and 9. A score below 7 usually means a licensed operator with notable weaknesses in user experience or transparency that we consider worth flagging.

What we assess

Each operator is assessed against six criteria. We apply the same criteria to every operator in the comparison set, which means scores are directly comparable.

1

Site usability

Up to 2 points

We navigate the site as a new visitor would. Can you find the main game categories quickly? Is the account section logical? Does the site handle mobile screens without breaking navigation? A site that is confusing to use scores lower here regardless of other factors.

2

Payment options

Up to 2 points

We note the range of available deposit and withdrawal methods, with a focus on UK-standard options such as Visa/Mastercard debit cards and major e-wallets. We also note any information available about withdrawal processing timescales, as this is a practical concern for most players.

3

Game variety

Up to 1.5 points

We record what game categories are offered — slots, table games, live dealer, virtual sports — and note whether the library draws from multiple software suppliers or relies on a single source. We do not assess the quality of individual game titles.

4

Mobile experience

Up to 1.5 points

We check the operator on a range of screen sizes to see how well the layout adapts. We note whether a dedicated mobile app is available for the UK market. A site that functions well without an app is not penalised for the absence of one.

5

Terms transparency

Up to 1.5 points

We look at how clearly promotional terms are presented, whether wagering requirements and key conditions are visible without excessive clicking, and whether the main terms and conditions document is accessible and readable in plain language.

6

Responsible gambling tools

Up to 1.5 points

We check whether deposit limits, time limits, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion options are accessible from the account area. Sites that make these tools easy to find score better than those that bury them in obscure menus.

What our scores do not mean

Our editorial scores are comparison indicators based on the criteria above. They are not:

  • Official safety ratings or regulatory assessments
  • A guarantee of service quality, reliability, or security
  • A recommendation to gamble or to use any specific operator
  • Based on player outcome data or financial performance
  • Permanent — they reflect our assessment at the time of review

How operators are selected

We select operators based on their UK market presence and their active UKGC licence status. Selection for inclusion is not based on payment to us. Operators can be removed from the comparison set if they lose their UK licence or cease operating for UK players.

We do not include every operator in the UK market. Our comparison set is deliberately limited to a manageable number that we can review properly.

Keeping comparisons current

We review and update our comparison information periodically. Operator details, payment options, and promotional terms can change at any time. We recommend checking the operator's own site before making any decisions, as our information may not reflect the most recent changes.
